2024 has ended people! A new year means a new Met Gala and a look back at the previous year’s. In this post I will address the theme and dressing passes and fails from Met Gala 2024.
Let’s dive in!
So, the theme for last year’s Met Gala was ‘ A Garden of Time’ inspired by the movie ‘A Garden of Time.’
Disclaimer: I am fully aware about the controversy of this theme but will not be discussing this today as this post is meant to be a light hearted look back and commentary on the outfits. This post also in no way meant to idolise these celebrities or be overly hateful towards them. All of these are my opinions and I hope I expressed them respectfully.
Passes:
Zendaya

This is by far one of the most talked about looks from this year’s Met Gala. In this Zendaya is wearing a beautiful Maison Margiela gown designed by John Galliano. It is inspired by a 1999 Dior gown. Zendaya accessorises this rather unconventional but enigmatic gown with a gothic headdress and dark make up giving her a unique look. It is no wonder that this look was one on this year’s standouts. Even though I may be no expert, I feel that with a longer train this gown could have been more… impactful, I guess you could say.

The sari speaks for itself. It is absolutely stunning and I feel Alia’s simple make up and beatiful flowery headdress highlighted the flower motifs on this dress even more .This piece was designed by famous Indian designer Sabyasachi. I don’t think I have any critiques about this sari (though that might just be a bit of my bias at work here) however, I do feel Alia did not need that many rings. They kind of distract from the sari.
Fails (now it gets disastrous) :
Chris Hemsworth | Credits: Vogue magazine
I admit, this Tom Ford suit is pretty nice…. Until you realise he was co-chair of the Met Committee this year with Jennifer Lopez who admittedly did not dress up much, but at least tried. He could have worn this on a regular red carpet too. This is one of my least favourite things about men’s fashion: the lack of variety. Most of the time men wear unremarkable clothes (somewhat understandably) to red carpets and Hemsworth’s special position this year , unfortunately, did not make him an exception.
Jimmy Fallon

Last but not least… Jimmy Fallon. I am disappointed to say that I do not have much to say about this. Unlike Chris Hemsworth’s suit which all things considered wasn’t even that bad, Fallon adorns standard black garb. I am absolutely positive he has been attending Met Galas longer than I have had the ability to read, write or even talk and still, he chooses to wear the same black suit every single time. Please hire a stylist.
Just because he’s a man, I will not be excusing the outfit.
In fact , there could have been so many creative outfits this year for men; frock coats, wacky pocket watches or tie pins, hats.. so much potential wasted.
Honourable mention: Jennifer Lopez Credits:Vogue Magazine
Yes, the dress is absolutely beautiful. Like I mentioned earlier being co chair of the Committee, I guess I expected more from her especially since she has already worn looks like this at previous red carpets but again that is just my opinion.
That’s all for today. This is my wrap on the Met Gala 2024 and I hope that 2025 sees more.. ah red carpet presence from men and as always amazing outfits from the women ( though I would be a liar if I didn’t say that I am looking forward to see red carpet fails from both! Guilty pleasures).
