Why so many makeup trends?
I am sure all of you have seen the countless make up trends making rounds on Instagram and Tik Tok nowadays- from “cold girl makeup” to “ latte girl make up” and the most infamous of all; the clean girl makeup, like what is that supposed to mean?
Anyways, on this blog, I will dissect a few make up trends and try (keyword) to understand the madness behind this.
Cold Girl make up:
Credit: Ciin Magazine This is Hailey Bieber. I am sure many people know her. I believe she is one of the forerunners of the Clean Girl make up trend too(I will address this later). It appears that the entire aesthetic of this specific trend rests on looking like you have spent an entire night out in the cold. While it may appear cute ,you don’t even need make up for this, just stand outside on an average England day and watch as you turn bright pink regardless of your skin colour ( nature, unlike makeup, does not discriminate based on skin tone and I think she’s a queen for that because different skin tones need different make up to achieve this effect but this topic is not for today). Jokes aside I think that pink blush would go best with more white skin tones and those with darker skin should use either purple or red to make the cold effect stand out since it’s harder for pink to stand out on our skin. You may also want to lean more towards skin tint or low coverage foundation for this make up look as then, the blush has a better chance on showing up on your face. Latte Girl Makeup:
This is also Hailey Bieber( I am sorry for the lack of images of other people) As one can observe, she appears to be wearing making inspired by a latte. I believe that bronzer was used heavily to achieve this warmish make up look a long with other neutral tones like peachy pink eyeshadow and beige blush( which looks so cute on lighter skin tones but just fails for darker ones 🥲) . I think contour is used either very lightly or ditched altogether . Foundation slightly warmer than your actual undertones should be preferred to give a warmer effect. Regardless of its questionable name, this may be one of may favourite make up trends because of its simplistic yet elegant nature. And last but not least…. Clean Girl Make Up:
Finally a picture of Zendaya! So, this make up seems to revolve heavily around clear skin and neat hair . Here, we can see that Zendaya’s hair is tied into box braids (which look absolutely gorgeous ) which keeps her hair in check as she has very curly hair (as stated by Zendaya herself). This isn’t an option for everyone since not everyone’s hair is curly and this specific hairstyle is part of her heritage and should be respected because of its history ( I do not mean to offend anyone I am just trying to say that it is important to understand the history behind it and not imitate it just because it looks ‘cute’ as it is part of someone else’s culture and it may be inappropriate to do so.). Anyways, I have seen a lot of people go with tight buns but I think that ponytails should be preferred since Olaplex 3 is generally used to make clean buns and if used incorrectly , it can be damaging to your hair. Color corrector according to your skin tone is a must, here is a chart: Credit: e.l.f cosmetics Concealer should also be used to cover up blemishes and foundation to even out skin tone. The aesthetic here is also very natural so I believe lip gloss like Zendaya is wearing in the picture should be used. That is all I have to say on this topic. I will link some videos below from amazing influencers who will probably do a better job of explaining than I could: https://youtube.com/shorts/pAwHLOWHLGI?si=GMty0ufJvtu94k3u @marysherb ( clean girl) https://youtube.com/shorts/begGCi30AvY?si=Kwy0Q9v1Xp_8utiJ @makeupbymonica (a brown girl friendly one as it is harder to achieve this look with darker skin.)( cold girl) https://youtube.com/shorts/eJ_hbdIp0Eg?si=teDgp0dNr6U_6flj @Mimiermakeup1 ( Latte make up) And I hope this goes without saying but please use proper skincare before attempting any of these! |
